Receiving awards for your work says more than any other business promotion; however, you can’t win awards if you don’t enter. Get recognized in your industry, but don’t limit yourself to industry-specific awards.
• Go for awards issued by your local, state regional or national trade association.
• Ask to be nominated for recognition as a business leader through your local chamber of commerce.
• Volunteer for a non-profit organization that publicly recognizes their leadership.
You may also gain recognition as a great employer by recognizing your workforce and then publicizing the awards presentation.
• Create an incentive program and announce the winners publicly by having them published in the business section of your local newspaper, business journals and trade publications.
• Host a gala event to recognize employee years of service, including an awards presentation that can be photographed and then submitted for local publication. Include a nationally known motivational speaker for media attention on the day of the event.
• Issue a press release and a photo to announce new hires and promotions.
• Encourage your employees to seek recognition outside of the organization through trade associations and support them in team volunteer projects.
Has your business ever been recognized publicly? What are some of the ways that your company benefited as a result?
